 During the 2011-12 semesters, Dr Houle will be based at McGill University's Institue for Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies. 

Dr Karen Houle is currently the Muriel Sparks Visiting Scholar, at McGill University's Institute for Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies.

Dr Stefan Linquist teaches the new Philosophy Field Course in Tofino, British Columbia (see course blog). 

Dr Karen Houle awarded a CIHR grant to develop a teaching manual in Ecosystem Approaches to Health.

Congratulations to Matt Lennox and Zoe Whittall.

Matt Lennox, currently a second year student in the MFA, is on the short list in the short story category of the annual ReLit Awards, for his collection Men of Salt, Men of Earth.

MFA alum Zoe Whittall has been shortlisted for her novel, Holding Still as Long as Possible.
 

In late August 2012, the new Philosophy Field Course undertook its inaugural expedition to Tofino, B.C. under the guidance of Professor Stefan Linquist. The mixed group of philosophy and biology students met with representatives from environmental groups, fishing and logging industries and First Nations. They inquired into these stakeholders' views on sustainability, conservation and economic development.

On Saturday, March 13 we held the 3rd annual Philosophy Graduate Students' Association Conference. This year's theme was “Bodies in the World.” Our keynote speaker was Professor Hasana Sharp (McGill), who gave a talk entitled “‘Men have nothing less in their power than their tongues': On spoken passions.” See the speakers and conferences page.
